Transcribe the letter, beginning at the main letter text. You can transcribe
as much of the letter as you like. Try to replicate as closely as possible
the spelling and punctuation. Do not expand abbreviations or provide
missing text. Only transcribe parts of the original letter - do not
transcribe archive numbers or other later annotations.
Mark features of letters with tags - make sure that each opening tag is
matched with a closing tag (a tag beginning </), and that tags are correctly nested (if you open
an 'underline' tag, and then a 'superscript' tag, you must close with
</superscrpt> before closing the underline tag. You can either type
the tags in or use the buttons to insert them at the end of the text (you do
have to click in the text box after using the button - just carry on typing).
Please use the following tags:
<deletion>Use around crossed out text.</deletion>
<addition>Use around inserted (for example, above the line) text.</addition>
<superscript>Use around superscript text, for example in abbreviated words.</superscript>
<underline>Use around underlined text.</underline>
<illegible></illegible> Use to indicate illegible text.
<flourish></flourish> Use to indicate flourishes in the text
This is a simplified form of the tagging that we used to transcribe the letters
